Give the gift of reading! Buying a subscription voucher allows your recipient to choose their reading preferences and receive exciting news books, hand-picked specifically for them.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Our subscriptions make excellent gifts! You have two options: purchase a subscription voucher, or puchase a gift subscription.
Purchasing a voucher works like a gift card -- your recipient can redeem the voucher when they sign up for a new subscription. Your recipient chooses their own reading preferences and shipping options.
Purchasing a gift subscription means that you will choose your recipients reading preferences and shipping options.
You can make changes, update your preferences, pause, or cancel your subscription through your online subscription portal or by contacting us. If you are cancelling or pausing your subscription, ensure you do so before your renewal date as we are not able to refund subscriptions once your card has been charged.
Our booksellers will use the reading preferences you specify when subscribing, such as the genres you like and dislike, your favourite authors, and more to hand-pick titles we think you'll love. The more information you give us, the more tailored your picks will be. If you've shopped with us before, we'll also use your purchase history to help inform our picks. Unlike other subscriptions, your books are chosen specifically for you from the over 4,000 unique titles in our store by a real life bookseller. Your bookseller will also write you a handwritten note to explain why they choose that book for you.
We always double-check your purchase history at The Spaniel's Tale Bookstore to ensure that you haven't purchased the book we're choosing for you. If you already purchased it elsewhere, consider gifting it to someone. Otherwise, you're welcome to exchange your book for another one in-store. Your exchange credit will be equal to the cover price of the book you're exchanging. Exchanges are only possible in-store.
The Bookseller Box is our original monthly book subscription service. Each month, you'll receive at least one new book, along with great treats and gifts, that we think you'll absolutely love.
The Focused Reader Bookseller Box contains no treats, no gifts, no distractions: this subscription includes books only. Every month, you'll receive at least one new book that we think you will absolutely love.
The Big Bookseller Box is a larger subscriptions: more books, more gifts. Each month, you'll receive 1-2 new books, along with wonderful treats and gifts that we think you'll absolutely love.
The Little Reader Bookseller Box is just like our Original Bookseller Box, but designed for the little readers in your life. Each month, you'll receive at least one new book and great treats and gifts that we think your little reader will absolutely love.
The Spaniel's Tale Bookseller Box uses a running balance method of managing your subscription. When you start or renew a subscription, the total you paid is added to your subscription balance. Every item we put in your subscription reduces the balance of your account. Once you reach the end of your subscription term, the balance in your account will be at or close to 0. This means that the value of each box varies from month to month -- some months may be higher or lower depending on what your bookseller has chosen for you.

Local delivery: delivery to your home within the Ottawa area. Eligibility for local delivery is determined by postal code at checkout. Local delivery is available at our current delivery rate.
Shipping: we ship to addresses across Canada. We are unable to ship to PO boxes. Shipping is available at our current shipping rate.
If you have a valid payment method on file, your subscription will automatically renew for another term at the end of your term. You will receive an email notification prior to the renewal date to let you know that your payment method will be charged for another term. If you do not have a valid payment method on file (i.e. you used a gift voucher to start your subscription, your credit card has expired, etc.), you will receive an email notifaction prior to the renewal date asking you to update your payment method. You will also receive a reminder email if you haven't updated your payment method by your renewal date. If you do not add a new payment method, your subscription will be cancelled. You can also cancel your subscription at any time from you subscription portal or by emailing us at [email protected].
Your books will be chosen by a professional bookseller at The Spaniel's Tale Bookstore, an independent bookstore in Ottawa, Ontario. We're a small team of booksellers dedicated to putting the right books in the right hands. Every single book is hand picked by a real bookseller specifically for each subscriber based on their reading preferences. You will also receive a handwritten note from your bookseller explaining why they chose your book.
