Yes, our subscriptions make excellent gifts! You have two options: purchase a subscription voucher, or puchase a gift subscription.
Purchasing a voucher works like a gift card -- your recipient can redeem the voucher when they sign up for a new subscription. Your recipient chooses their own reading preferences and shipping options.Simply choose "Gift a subscription" above.
Purchasing a gift subscription means that you will choose your recipients reading preferences and shipping options. Simply purchase a subscription using the name and reading preferences of the gift recipient. During the checkout process, you will have the option of selecting a recipient, start date, and subscription duration by selecting "This is a gift."
You can make changes, update your preferences, pause, or cancel your subscription through your online subscription portal or by contacting us. If you are cancelling or pausing your subscription, ensure you do so before your renewal date as we are not able to refund subscriptions once your card has been charged.
We'll use the reading preferences you specify when subscribing, such as the genres you like and dislike, your favourite authors, and more to hand-pick titles we think you'll love. The more information you give us, the more tailored your picks will be. If you've shopped with us before, we'll also use your purchase history to help inform our picks.
We always double-check your purchase history at The Spaniel's Tale Bookstore to ensure that you haven't purchased the book we're choosing for you. If you already purchased it elsewhere, you're welcome to exchange your book for another one in-store. Your exchange credit will be equal to the cover price of the book you're exchanging. Exchanges are only possible in-store.
Our Bookseller Box generally includes one book (usually a paperback) and a small gift, like a sticker or a pen. With our Big Bookseller Box, our booksellers have a little more freedom to choose something they think you'll love. It might include a couple books, or a more expensive hardcover book. It also include more expensive gifts and treats. In both cases, our booksellers work hard to hand pick a book just for you that they think you'll love.
We always aim to provide the best value with our subscription boxes, and our results speak for themselves: according to our latest subscriber survey, over 98% of our subscribers are pleased with the value of their subscription. The price of our subscriptions cover the retail cost of the books and gifts, as well as the costs of running the subscription program.
Yes! We offer in-store pickup, local delivery, and shipping.
Local delivery is available in our local delivery zone (most of the City of Ottawa, excluding Kanata and Orleans) for $7/month. Eligibility is determined automatically at checkout. If you think you should be eligible but don't see the option, get in touch with us and we'll look into it.
Shipping outside of our local delivery zone is available across North America. Within Ontario and Quebec, shipping is $15/month. In the rest of Canada, shipping is $20/month. In the US, shipping is $25/month. Delivery and shipping costs are consistent with our standard shipping fees, which were determined by the average cost to ship a package from our shop in Ottawa to addresses in each of these regions.
No. For your convenience, your subscription will automatically renew at the end of your subscription term using the credit card on file. You can update your credit card in the subscription portal.
Your box will be put together by a bookseller at The Spaniel's Tale Bookstore, an independent bookstore in Ottawa, Ontario. We're a small team of booksellers dedicated to putting the right books in the right hands.
